Troubleshooting Stuttering & Freezing Issues - PC

Last Updated: 2025-12-30

Sometimes in THE FINALS, stuttering or freezes can occur when shader compilation takes an unusually long time. This can result in poor performance, especially when loading into matches or new areas.

A potential fix for this issue is to clear your system’s shader caches.
Follow the steps below depending on your graphics card.

Before you begin

  • Make sure THE FINALS is completely closed

  • You must be logged into Windows with an account that has administrator privileges

Step 1 – Open the Local AppData folder

  1. Press Windows key + R to open the Run window

  2. Enter the following and press OK:

%localappdata%

File Explorer will open the Local folder.

Step 2 – Clear shader cache based on your GPU

NVIDIA Graphics Cards

  1. Open the NVIDIA folder

  2. Open the DXCache folder

  3. Select all files inside the folder

  4. Right-click and select Delete

  5. If any files cannot be deleted because they are in use, skip those files

AMD Graphics Cards

  1. Open the AMD folder

  2. Open the DxCache folder

  3. Select all files and delete them

  4. Skip any files that cannot be deleted

  5. Go back to the Local folder

  6. Press Alt + Up Arrow to navigate to the AppData folder

  7. Open the LocalLow folder

  8. Open the AMD folder

  9. Open the DxCache folder

  10. Select all files and delete them

  11. Skip any files that cannot be deleted

Intel Graphics Cards

  1. From the Local folder, press Alt + Up Arrow to return to the AppData folder

  2. Open the Intel folder

  3. Open the ShaderCache folder

  4. Select all files and delete them

  5. Skip any files that cannot be deleted

Step 3 – Clear DirectX shader cache via Disk Cleanup

  1. Press Windows key + R again

  2. Enter the following and press OK:

cleanmgr
  1. Select the drive where Windows is installed (usually C:) and press OK

  2. In the Disk Cleanup window:

    • Check only the box next to DirectX Shader Cache

    • Uncheck all other boxes

  3. Click OK

  4. When prompted, click Delete Files

Step 4 – Launch the game

Start THE FINALS again.

Note: Shader preloading will take longer than usual on your first launch. This is expected and only happens once while new shaders are being rebuilt.

Clearing your shader cache can resolve stuttering, freezing, and inconsistent performance caused by corrupted or outdated shader data.
