Hardware Tester Window: What It Means and What to Do

Last Updated: 2025-07-18

If you’ve seen a “Hardware Tester” window appear when launching THE FINALS, don’t worry, it’s not an error in itself. However, it is a sign that your system might be experiencing hardware-related issues that could impact game stability. Here's what the window means and what steps you can take next.

Why Does the Hardware Tester Window Appear?

This window shows up after the game detects what we call a suspicious crash, a crash that shows patterns more commonly caused by hardware problems (usually with the CPU) than by software bugs.

The Hardware Tester helps identify whether unstable hardware might be behind these crashes.

What Is a “Suspicious Crash”?

A suspicious crash is one that resembles known patterns of hardware failure rather than typical game bugs. These could stem from unstable overclocks, aging components, or other system-level instabilities, especially in your CPU or RAM.

How Accurate Is the Hardware Tester?

The Hardware Tester is a helpful early warning, but it’s not a full diagnostic tool. It’s designed to quickly catch potential issues, but it may not detect every problem. A passing result doesn’t always mean your hardware is 100% stable, especially if crashes continue to occur.

What Should You Do If You Keep Seeing the Hardware Tester?

Start by completing the built-in hardware test.

  • If you pass the test, the Hardware Tester window won’t appear again for at least a week—even if another suspicious crash occurs.

  • If the window returns after a week, or you continue to experience crashes, it's a strong signal to perform deeper hardware testing.

Recommended Tool: Prime95

To better understand your system’s health, we recommend running Prime95, a well-known stress testing tool for identifying CPU and memory issues.

How to Use Prime95:

  1. Download Prime95 from the official website.

  2. Launch the app and choose a test type:

    • “Blend”: Tests CPU and RAM together.

    • “Small FFTs”: Focuses on maximum CPU stress.

  3. Let the test run for several hours.

  4. If your PC crashes, freezes, or reports errors, that’s a strong indication of a hardware issue.

Still crashing but Prime95 shows no issues? Contact Embark Support with details and we’ll help you investigate further.

What If the Stress Test Fails?

If you fail our built-in test or the more advanced Prime95 test, it strongly suggests your hardware is unable to consistently perform basic operations.

We recommend reviewing the Stress Test Failed article for troubleshooting tips and next steps.
